Dr. Abdul Moeed Kazi

Dr. Abdul Mooed Kazi is the Ex-President and one of the founders of Pakistan Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PSPMR). He is among the pioneers who introduced the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) in the country. His substantial efforts led to the development of Rehabilitation Medicine regionally and helped to sustain the recognition of the specialty during a very challenging era. His perseverance kept the flag of rehabilitation medicine high when the local perception of the specialty was not well comprehended. With a background in Internal Medicine and a long standing academic affiliation at major teaching institutes of Karachi, Dr. Kazi was able to gradually promote the need of rehabilitation medicine. Over the years, his sedulous attempts led to recognition of PMR in medical community, allied health sciences and acknowledgment at national level.
Dr. Kazi graduated from King Edward Medical College Lahore in 1970 and became the Member of College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (MCPS) in the specialty of Medicine in 1976. He served as Senior Registrar and later as Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) Karachi till he went to England in 1989. During 1989-1990, he completed certification in Medical Rehabilitation at British Postgraduate Medical Federation (BPMF), a school of the University of London. On his return, he took charge of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at JPMC where he continued to provide his services as Assistant Professor and Head of the Department.
Dr. Kazi has a vast experience in teaching at undergraduate and post graduate level in Internal Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Allied Health Sciences and Nursing. He served as a teaching faculty at JPMC and Sindh Medical College (SMC) for over 3 decades. He also served as Principal for School of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy and was involved in teaching BSc. Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy at JPMC. Dr. Kazi has been examiner in Internal Medicine at University of Karachi and Sindh Board of Nursing. In the late 90s, he worked closely in alliance with other senior colleagues across the country to develop residency training in PMR under the umbrella of College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP). Department of PMR at JPMC was one of the first to be recognized for FCPS training. Currently, he is a supervisor, examiner and a faculty member at CPSP for post graduate training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. CPSP awards a gold medal in the name of Dr. Abdul Moeed Kazi and Dr. S R Kirmani to PMR fellows who perform extraordinary in FCPS II (exit) exam.
Dr. Kazi has been the Associate Editor of Journal of Surgery Pakistan (JSP International) and has presented at various local and national conferences in the country. His articles have been published in local and international journals.
