Dr. Nabila Soomro is Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) and Director of Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Karachi. She has a lead role in promoting Rehabilitation Medicine regionally and laid the foundation of Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2007 under the umbrella of Dow University of Health Sciences. Currently, she is the finance secretary of Pakistan Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is also examiner and faculty member at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan.

Dr. Nabila graduated from Dow Medical College in 1986. She completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center and passed the exit exam in 2003 to become the Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (FCPS). She secured first position in the fellowship exam, and was awarded Gold Medal by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. She is the first fellow in the country who secured this award in the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In 2005, she was appointed as Assistant Professor at Dow University and was promoted to BPS grade-19. Later, in 2006, she joined the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as a director. The Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IPM&R) is a leading rehabilitation facility in the region which is affiliated with Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS). This institute was envisioned by Prof. Masood Hameed, then vice-chancellor of DUHS. It provides multidisciplinary services and offers Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Special Education, Speech therapy, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Neuropsychology and Vocational rehabilitation. It also offers community based rehabilitation services. IPM&R has expanded over time and now has a full range of academic departments which are organized into various divisions. There is residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation accredited with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. The institute runs a School of Physiotherapy, School of Occupational therapy and a School of Prosthetics and Orthotics which offer Doctorate and BSc. Programs. The facility is dedicated to being an internationally significant rehabilitation institute in the promotion, development and dissemination of research and education in the science of rehabilitation through its activities and partnerships with internal and external communities. It is reflected in the number of publications and ongoing projects carried out at the organization.

Dr. Nabila Soomro is also a visiting faculty and consultant in Neurology Section at the Agha Khan University Hospital Karachi. She also organizes and participates in stroke related events at AKU Hospital. She was given excellence service award by Governor of Sindh in 2008 and 2013, and received appreciation award by Chief Minister of Sindh in 2011 for dedicated services at the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She also continues to promote the specialty of PMR through electronic and paper media.

Dr. Nabila Soomro is also the President of Pakistan Society of Neurorehabilitation which was formed in 2014 with the patronage of Pakistan Society of Neurology. It has conducted national and international Conferences through its platform. The society is rapidly growing and is destined to advance the development and improve the quality of neurological rehabilitation across the country.
